William Hering Obituary

William Emil Hering, 88, of Burton, passed away peacefully at UH Geauga, Saturday, May 8, 2021.

He was born December 31, 1932 to the late Otto and Emma (Krotz) Hering. He joined the US Army in 1956, and proudly served his country while stationed in Germany.  He married the light of his life, Kay (Johnson)Hering September 10, 1960, and they went on to celebrate almost 61 years of marriage.  William was a God -fearing Christian man who would help anyone in their time of need.  He was able to fix any “house problems”his family or friends had.  He was a good man who loved his family with no boundaries.  William volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, the Milking Parlor at the Geauga County Fair, and was a 4-H Advisor for the “Electric Club” at the fairgrounds.  He was a Cub Scout Leader and loved helping his children and grandkids, especially with the Pinewood Derby.  When he retired from General Electric, he started creating and making furniture pieces for his family and was known for his artistic pinatas he made for special family events.  William never met a stranger and had a way of making each person he met feel special.

William is survived by his loving wife, Kay (Johnson) Hering, sons William Matthew (Pammy), Joel Ernest (Melissa), Christopher Alan (Denise), Nathan David, Peter John, daughter Lara Rae (Robert) Vystrcil, and brother, Fred Frederick Hering. He was “Grandpa” to 9 grandchildren and a “Grandfather” to 14 bonus grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many friends and relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private graveside service will be held by the family.
