“Sonny” Ellis Edward Horner, age 75 of Champion Township passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Mercy Health St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was born on February 7, 1946, in Washington County, Pennsylvania, son of the late Ellis M and Catherine (Sprawls) Horner. He was a graduate of Shaw High School in Cleveland and served in the U.S. Army 1965-1967. Ellis married Susan E. Dagnan September 25, 1965. They were married 51 years before she passed away in 2016. He was a truck driver for many companies and retired from ODOT in 2009. After he retired, he was an Amish taxi driver. He was a member of the Cherry Valley Church of the Nazarene. Ellis enjoyed dancing, spending winters in Florida and eating out.
He will be missed by his family and friends.
Ellis is survived by his son Ronald (Gail) Horner of Champion, his daughter Michelle (Bob Mate) Janus of Colebrook, two grandchildren, Michael (Beth) Janus and Thomas Horner, 4 great grandchildren, Acacia, Greyson, Rowen Janus, and Emma Cosidine, his close friend and sister-in-law, Diane Meier, brother-in-law James (Linda) Dagnan, and several nieces, nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his sister Phyllis McCave.
Calling hours will be held 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 -8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Sly Family Funeral Home in Middlefield. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cherry Valley Church of the Nazarene, 3410 US Rt 6, Andover, OH 44003.
