Shirley Ann Hewins, 92, of Mentor, formerly of Middlefield and Troy Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 15, 2025, at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, Ohio.
Born on June 2, 1933, in Middlefield, Ohio, Shirley was the daughter of Oscar and Sarah (Conn) Weinstein. After graduating from high school, she married Charles Hewins, and together they shared 38 wonderful years of marriage, raising four daughters. A devoted wife and mother, Shirley also served in the admissions department at Geauga Hospital for 15 years, where her warmth and kindness left a lasting impact.
Shirley had a passion for music, knitting, and crossword puzzles. She cherished winters spent in Boca Raton, Florida, and found joy in bird watching, traveling, and cheering on the Cleveland Guardians. Above all, she treasured time spent with her four daughters, whom she considered her best friends. She will be remembered for her deep love of family, her generous heart, and her unwavering kindness.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Colleen (Cliff) Shepard, Catherine (Mark) Wiley, and Charlotte Hewins; her grandchildren, Carrie Earls (Josh), Warren Chan, Gary McDivitt, Craig McDivitt (Stacy), Christopher Shepard, Zachary Wiley (Kaitlyn), Timothy Wiley, and Nick Wiley (Shelby); and seven great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Charles; her daughter, Cynthia Hewins; her sister, Betty Kaltenbach; and her brother, Myron Weinstein.
