Sherrill Ann (Dickerhoff) Thompson, aged 88, of Painesville, formerly of Mentor, passed away peacefully at Chardon Woods Nursing Home on April 5, 2025. Born May 18, 1936, in Akron, OH, to loving parents Robert Lee and Emily Frances Dickerhoff, she graduated from Springfield High School (1954) and enjoyed her time at Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, MN.
She had a fulfilling job at Goodyear before attending ABI, where she met Reverend William Thompson I (deceased February 10, 2024). They shared 66 wonderful years together, working hand-in-hand in many ministerial roles. In 1978 they established New Life Church in Perry.
Sherrill was passionate about teaching God's Word, singing, playing piano and organ, and cherishing her family, especially her grandchildren. She often spoke of heaven and found comfort in her favorite verse, John 14:2-3: "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
She leaves behind her children Candy (Mark) Porostosky, Rebecca Lynn Thompson, and William A. (Dovie) Thompson II; grandchildren Monica (Chris) Sheldon, Mark (Susan) Porostosky, Billy (Mychele) Thompson, Bradley (MicKayla) Thompson, and Bethany (Christian) Walmer; great-grandchildren Titus, Hank, Brielle, Liam, Azariah, Harvey, and Sterling; sister Diane (Frank) Battles, and sister-in-law Janice Dickerhoff. She was preceded in death by brothers Robert and James Dickerhoff (Kathy).
Friends and family are invited for visitation on April 9, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 pm, and April 10, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am at New Life Church, Perry, Ohio. The graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Painesville, Ohio.
The Thompson family extends heartfelt thanks to Heather Hill (Chardon Woods), Bella Care Hospice for their support during this time, and Sly Family Funeral Home for their kindness and support. Services will be officiated by lifelong friend Bishop Rodney Pamer of The Apostolic Church of Barberton.
