Samuel J. Byler, age 78, of North Bloomfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 7:20 AM at Hillcrest Hospital in Cuyahoga County.
Born on November 4, 1947, Samuel was the son of the late John Henry Byler and Sarah (Farmwald) Byler. He was a lifelong resident of Trumbull County and made his home on Creaser Road with his loving wife, Cora M. (Detweiler) Byler.
Samuel proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Germany, working as a combat engineer from January 1967 through December 1969. He attended North Bloomfield Assembly of God Church and was a dedicated member of Orwell American Legion Post #719, where he cherished the fellowship of his fellow veterans. He retired from Kennametal after more than 40 years of service as a furnace operator.
A devoted husband, father, and family man, Samuel is survived by his wife, Cora; his children Samuel Byler, David Byler, Christina (Bart) Castle and Mark (Cathy) Byler,; his grandchildren Andrea, Rachel, Brendon, Caitlin, Haven, Wayne, William, and his great-grandchildren A’myla, Brielle, Lyzah, and Brantley. He is also survived by his beloved siblings John Henry (Clara) Byler, Andrew Byler, and Marie Miller.
He was preceded in death by his son James Allen Byler (2022); siblings Mahlon John Byler, Barbara A. Farmwald, Ervin James Byler, Freeman Byler, David L. Byler, and an infant brother.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 1:30-3:30 PM at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High Street, Middlefield, Ohio 44062, followed by his funeral service at 3:30 PM, officiated by Pastor Jason Banar. Military honors will be rendered immediately following the service. A private burial will take place with family in Brownwood Cemetery, North Bloomfield, Ohio.
