Roger Paul Spencer, 87, of Rayland, Ohio and formerly of Middlefield, Ohio, passed away Sunday July 9, 2023, at UH Geauga Medical Center. He was born July 11, 1935, in Breathitt County, Kentucky to the late Ealy and Beulah Spencer. Roger moved from Kentucky to Middlefield and worked for Johnson Rubber Co., White Brothers, Smallwood Packing and then was the owner and operator of Nauvoo Road Market until 1973. He then moved to Hopedale, Ohio where he ran his own farm for several years. He enjoyed going on fishing trips with his sons to Canada, working on assorted household projects, and reading. He was a former member of the Huntsburg Baptist Church, and then faithfully attended Meadowbrook Church of God. He loved the Lord and looked forward to spending eternity with his Savior. He would talk about the Bible with anyone who would listen.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Betty of 68 years, his loving children, Gaylord (Terri) Spencer, Dawn Spencer, Bryan (Laurie) Spencer, Ryan (Shari) Spencer, Jared (Debbie) Spencer, his siblings, Helen (Frank) Pahel, Herbert (Carol) Spencer, Betty (John) Forde, Albert (Bonnie) Spencer, Dorothy Chapman, Shirley Spencer. He also had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Saturday July 15, 2023, at the Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St, Middlefield, Ohio 44062, from 11:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 12:00 PM with Pastor Marvin Schooler from Meadowbrook Church of God officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date in Zion Cemetery, Hopedale, Ohio.
