Robert Sykora Obituary

** Service Update **

Robert F. "Bob" Sykora left this life Thursday June 27, 2024. He was born May 1st, 1941, to Fred and Mary (Yuschak) Sykora, he spent most of his childhood, and all of his adult life in Geauga County. He was a 1959 graduate of Cardinal High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Martha "Marty" Klingman on December 17, 1959, who preceded him in death in 2012.

Bob was a "car guy" all his life. Prior to his military service, he was employed at R.V. Davis Chevrolet in Middlefield. During these years, he collected, built, restored, traded and raced Chevrolet cars. In 1966, he was drafted into the US Army, serving in Texas, and Chu-Lai, Vietnam. Upon his return home, he became service manager at Havre Motors in Ravenna.

A lifelong dream of entrepreneurship was realized when he and a partner opened an auto detailing shop in Middlefield, which later grew into a used car dealership. It was a spinoff from that business that led to his signature accomplishment, Bob's Chevy Parts, originally specializing in 1955-1957 Chevrolet parts, later in 1947-1970s Chevy trucks and parts, catering to restorers and collectors. Bob was nationally regarded as an authority on those vehicles. An avid golfer, Bob sponsored leagues at local golf courses, and could often be found playing a round or two with his "golf goombas" at courses around northeast Ohio. Bob was a longtime member and officer at Middlefield VFW Post 9678, home of his "second family". He was also a member of FOE, Geauga Aerie 2261. He was a member of several Classic Chevy clubs, and was a founding vendor of Carlisle Events, one of the largest automotive swap meets in the country.

In addition to his wife Marty, he was preceded in death by his sister Sandra Cook, and his parents Fred and Mary Sykora. Bob is survived by brothers Joe, (Sandra) Sykora, Greg, (Cheri) Sykora, and sister, Sharon, (Charlie) Osborn. He is also survived by special nephew Jeff Cook, who was very instrumental in the operation of Bob's businesses. He also leaves 3 generations of nephews and nieces and will also be greatly missed by his late wife Marty’s family, the Klingmans and Merryfields.

A celebration of his life luncheon will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Mineral Lake Park in Middlefield, Sperry Lane Pavilion from 1:00-4:00 PM.

Memorial Donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Middlefield VFW Post 9678.
