Rita Marie Bieznieks, 83, of Newbury, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family early Sunday morning, July 3rd, 2022. Rita was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 25, 1939, to the late Joseph and Marion (Rymarczyk) Grubiss…fourth born of eight children. She married her late husband, Edgar, on August 27th,1960, and moved with him and their four children from Euclid to Newbury where she resided the past 54 years.
Rita was a stay-at-home mother of five until deciding to take a job managing the kitchen at Pleasant Hills Golf Course for many years. She also held positions with other employers including St. Dennis Golf Course and Giant Eagle in Middlefield, before finally retiring. Rita was a dedicated member of St. Helen Catholic Church for as many years as she lived in Newbury. She had been a member of the Choir, the Ladies Guild, the Prayer Shawl Ministry, Eucharistic Ministry and she recited the Rosary daily before attending morning mass. She was so proud to listen to her daughter and especially her granddaughter sing at mass…Grandma was Lili’s biggest fan!
Rita loved to play cards whether it was Rummy, Uno or Poker…and she played to win! She loved to play Bingo and penny slots at the Casino. Rita was a very talented cook and baker. She entered many baked goods in the fair and won countless ribbons (mostly first place) over the years. She held bragging rights as Grand Champion in the Apple Pie contest at the Geauga County Fair!
Rita lived for her family and friends. She was a kind, generous soul who gave everything she had with whomever she came in contact with. She lovingly opened her home and welcomed everyone. No one ever went hungry, she made sure of that! Holiday gatherings were very important to her, especially her many traditions at Christmas that included a vast array of cookies, nut and poppyseed rolls, raisin bread, Grandma buns and a huge dinner with all the fixings.
Rita found comfort over the last few years watching countless Hallmark movies, HGTV and Food Network. She always dreamed that the Property Brothers would offer to remodel her home!
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar, in 2019. She will be sadly missed by her children Cindy (John) Kraus of Newbury, Erik (Lucinda) Bieznieks of Auburn, Ron (Lisa) Bieznieks of Chardon, Jim (Jen) Bieznieks of Garrettsville, and Michelle (Bret) Meadows of Chardon. Rita leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Rachel (Ryan) Zusy, Melody (Dan) Cramer, Erik Bieznieks Jr., Nathaniel Bieznieks, Rachel Breckenridge, Cecilia (Andrew) Swansiger, Dillen Bieznieks, Mykaela Bieznieks, Haley (Austin) Mansfield, Lilija Meadows, Julianna Meadows, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters and 1 brother, brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Friday, July 15, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, OH 44062.
