Richard A. Gates

Richard A. Gates age 84 of Parkman Township passed away at home on November 16, 2021, surrounded by his beloved family.  Born January 13, 1937, in Troy Township to Vernon and Bertha Gates. He attended Troy school and then Middlefield High School.  Richard graduated in 1955. He joined the Army Reserve serving for six years. He joined his father in the family construction business known as Gates Construction.  At his dad’s retirement Richard took over the business, and later his son Ronald Gates joined as a partner.

Richard was an avid fisherman and went to Canada every year to fish with his friends, and 3 sons, and later with his 3 grandsons. He also loved snowmobiling and 4 wheeling.  He shared many vacations especially cruises with his wife Beverly.

     He leaves behind his wife Beverly of 59 years, three sons, Rick Gates (Christine), Ronald Gates (Nicole) and Randall W. Gates. Grandchildren Brian Gates (fiancé Emmie), Nicholas Gates (Alina), Anna Gates, Dr. Samantha Bosak (Frank), and Matthew Gates. Cousins Elizabeth Hagen and Joseph Hagen (Susan), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Bertha Gates, and his brother Dale Gates.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Sara Hershberger for her compassionate care and love to Richard the last four years.
