Richard Church Obituary

Richard Lee “Dick” Church, 69, died on September 16, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He was born July 16, 1951, son of the late Rosalie Difford and the late John Church. He attended Bristol and Farmington schools. He worked as a mold setter at several plastics factories throughout Ohio, ending his career at Sajar Plastics in Middlefield, Ohio.

Dick enjoyed working on cars with his family. He especially took great pride in restoring his 1972 Camaro. Like his father, grandfather, and brothers, Dick worked well with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking and often times made his own furniture and doing his own home renovations. He was always willing to help out family, friends, and neighbors on projects whenever he was needed. Dick had a natural green thumb and was very particular with maintaining his landscaping. He also loved to decorate for Christmas. Many times, he had the best outside light display on his street. He had a love for animals and always enjoyed the company of his dogs. Dick was a quiet man who kept to himself, but he never shied away from telling you what he thought. Dick always had a fighter’s spirit. That spirit, his stubbornness, and a strong heart kept him fighting until the very end.

He is survived by his brothers; John Church of Cortland, William (Tonya) Church of Salem, W.V., Charles (Cindy) Church of W. Farmington, Timothy (Paula) Church of Braceville, Shawn (Kim) Difford of Bristolville; step-brother Robert (Phyllis) Difford of Champion; sisters Linda (Art) Swick of Champion, Barbara Allison of Warren, Debra (John) Dale of W. Farmington; 17 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two faithful companions, Duke and Buddy, who never left his side.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece Bobby Sue, nephew Bill, step-brother Gary, step-sister Barb, step-father Robert Difford and step-mother Ada Church.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 11:00 A.M. followed by the funeral service at 12:00 P.M. at Sly Family Funeral Home in Middlefield, Ohio with Ed Dulka officiating. Dick will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in West Farmington.
