Mary Lou Amato

Mary Lou Amato 87, of West Farmington passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday October 22, 2024.  She was born on September 23, 1937, in Burton to the late Mack and Mary (Eggleston) Largen.  Mary graduated from Burton High School and married Jim Amato Sr., March 16, 1957, to whom she was married for nearly 64 years until his passing in 2020.  She worked for Delphi Packard Electric in Warren for over 35 years. 

 Mary enjoyed following the Cleveland Indians and attending spring trainings with her sister Sylvia and traveling to The Florida Keys each winter to visit family. She was an avid crossworder and card player, enjoyed watching the Game Show Network, socializing on Facebook, but she loved nothing more than visits from family and friends on the deck.

She will be dearly missed by her two daughters: Toni Rae Ciapala (Chuck) of Howland, and Diane Amato-Slusher (Carman) of Key Colony Beach, Florida, and son, James Amato, Jr. of West Farmington; 3 granddaughters: Heather (Her Miss America), Taylor, and Tori, and 3 grandsons; Donato and Dante, and her beloved Nicky Lee II, who was her primary caregiver and best friend in her final years and one great-granddaughter: Cambria Louise along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to sincerely thank all of Mary Lou's wonderful caregivers, who enabled her to stay in her home and who became cherished friends to her and the family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Sr., her two sons, Nick and Joe, 4 brothers: Richard, Wesley, Ray Mac "Butch," and Roger, and 6 sisters Virginia Wolfcomber, Sylvia Derrick, Evelyn Dulka, Maxine Coe, Jeanette Hessa, and Viola Poston.

A private family celebration of life was held to honor her. She was laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery, West Farmington.
