Louis George Portman, 88 of Troy Township, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020 at UH Geauga Medical Center. He was born on January 12, 1932 in Bedford, Ohio, son of David and Mary (Law) Portman. After graduating from Newbury High School, he served for the U.S. Army in the Korean war where he received a purple heart. He was a police officer for Chagrin Falls. He then became a truck driver for Manfredi Motor Transit Co. in Newbury. He received many awards from Manfredi, and one was for driving over 3.1 million miles with no accident. He lived in Troy Twp. since July 2019 coming from North Port, FL and Burton, Ohio.
Louis was a member of the VFW and F.O.E. in Chagrin Falls. He loved the outdoors, was a pilot and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling to Canada, Florida, and Pennsylvania. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Louis is survived by his beloved wife Bobbette Jean (Edwards) of 40 years, three children, Phillip Portman, Cheryl (Arthur) Erker and Kimberly Portman, four step children, Bambi (Tom) Davis, Scott Bollinger, Michael (Robyn) Bollinger, and Jack (Gloria) Bollinger, 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and his sister Mari Lou Fritz. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joseph Portman.
A Private family graveside service will be held in Newbury Center Cemetery.
