Karlo S. Maki passed away in Jefferson, Ohio on 9 August 2023. Karlo was born 22 May 1924 on his parents farm on Nauvoo Road, Middlefield, Ohio. He graduated from Mesopotamia High School, May 1941. He enlisted into the United States Army in January 1943. Karlo graduated from the Army Air Corps in March 1944. He was assigned to the 385th Fighter Squadron, Homington, England. He flew P-51 Mustangs with 28 combat missions escorting bombers to Germany and back. After the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia I. Hillock. After 69 years of marriage, Virginia passed away in May of 2015. Karlo was proceeded in death by his mother, Jenny Maki (Louma), father, Samuel S. Maki, sister, Martha Mattson (Maki), brothers Reino Maki, Wilho Maki. He is survived by his four children, Samuel (Ruth) Maki, Leslie Liplin, Jennifer Baldwin and Carolyn (Curt) Stone. Karlo has 7 grandchildren, Steve, April, Hope, Carrie, Tracy, Natalie, Brad and 16 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great, grandchildren. There will be a private family service. Karlo will be laid to rest with his wife at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, Ohio.
We would like to thank the ER staff of the Geneva and Ashtabula hospitals for taking care of our dad during the many trips we made. A big thank you to the home health givers from Capital Health Homecare for the excellent care they gave dad and the family. A very special thank you to physical therapist Corina who brightened Karl’s day. And not enough can be said for the wonderful help from the Hospice of Western Reserve. They have been a blessing. Thank you all!
