Joyce Puckett Obituary

On Monday, July 11, 2022, M. Joyce Puckett passed away peacefully at Arden Courts Memory Care in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Joyce was born in Ottawa, Ontario, on April 14, 1926, to the late William and Emily (Maude) Johnston.

Joyce attended Queen’s University at Kingston, Ontario, and graduated with a degree in elementary education. She married Randall (Randy) Willis Puckett in December, 1950. They had four children and resided in the Auburn, Ohio area since 1960.

Joyce was very proud to become an American citizen in 1976. She loved playing the piano, and took lessons with the Cleveland Conservatory of Music. Her other interests included muskie fishing, raising black labs, and cooking. She also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends at their Auburn home, and at the family cottage in Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Bobcaygeon always held special significance because while teaching there, she happened to meet her future husband, Randy.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Randy, son Jamess, daughter Jill; and by her brothers, Mac Johnston, Jack Johnston, and sister, Bea Johnston Thomas.

She will be greatly missed by her sons Randall (Roberta) Puckett of Hatley, Wisconsin, and Jack Puckett of Ravenna, Ohio, as well as five grandchildren: Lindsay (Tim Poodiack) Puckett, M.D.,Caitlin (Calvin Cole) Puckett, David Byler, Belle (Michael) Ebie, and Johnston Puckett, as well as great-granddaughters Poppy Poodiack, and Ripley Cole Puckett. Joyce was beloved by sisters-in-law Sally Milnark and Mary Puckett; son-in-law Dave Byler, Paula Pemberton, Merry Cooke, and by her many Canadian relatives.

She will be buried in Shadyside Cemetery in Auburn Township on a later date. It was her wish to not hold a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks instead for any donations to be made on her behalf for Alzheimer’s research.

A special thank you to all the staff at Arden Courts Memory Care at Chagrin Falls, for their exceptional care of our dear mother.

Sly Family Funeral Home assisted the family in making the arrangements.
