Joyce Bontrager Obituary

Joyce A. Bontrager, 69, of Chardon peacefully passed away at her home surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of 47 years to the late Wayne Bontrager. Joyce and Wayne are now reunited and will watch over the family they created together.

Born September 21, 1954, to the late Donald and Mary (Blossom) Gravelyn in Grand Rapids, MI. Joyce was the youngest of six siblings.

Joyce was a daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to so many. Joyce’s greatest life achievement was her role as a mother. grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was her world. Joyce took pride in the years she was employed as a STNA. She truly had a caring heart to help others. Joyce enjoyed Bingo and had a lucky hand at reverse raffles. Joyce’s love for the snow led her to find excitement in riding her snowmobile. Joyce was a lover of butterflies, music, word searches, Dr. Pepper and a good cup of coffee. She was always quick with her catch phrase, “Bite Me”, and we can’t forget her love for Snoopy.

Joyce will be missed by her family. Her survivors include, son Martin (Alisa) Bontrager, daughters Tammie (Bret) Hokes and Shalee Bontrager, step-children Glenn (Tina) Bontrager and Lisa Bontrager, cherished grandchildren, Tiffany Bontrager, Brittany (Dan) Lyons, Racheal Bontrager, Brooke Hokes, Dillon Bontrager, Brandon Bontrager, Troy Bontrager, and Haleigh Bontrager, great grandchildren, Ethan, Kellin, Kayson, Eliana, Eliza, Elijah and Avery, siblings, Robert (Eileen) Gravelyn, Linda Lowery, Kathy Wetherbee, and Judy (Terry) Bockheim, and many cherished extended family and friends.

Other than her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, brother Tom Gravelyn and brothers-in-law Ken Lowry and Tom Wetherbee.

The family will have a private celebration of life and ask others to keep Joyce’s beautiful blue eyes and memory alive in your hearts. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Joyce’s name.
