John H. Granny, 54, of Middlefield passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020 from complications resulting from a spinal cord injury with his loving family at his side. He was born November 23, 1965 in Youngstown to Robert P. and Julianna Granny, nee Brainard. John graduated Howland High School in 1984 and attended Kent State University where he earned multiple degrees. After graduation, John began a career with Kent State University that spanned 30 years. During his career, John held numerous positions with the most recent and longest being Director of Business Affairs.
John’s greatest love was spending time with his sons. He is known for his infectious smile and youthful enthusiasm. John enjoyed all sports, especially coaching youth sports, being an OHASAA football official, supporting Cardinal Schools as an Athletic Booster, walking, and shooting pool with friends.
He will be forever missed by his father, Bob (Anna Marie) Granny, sons, Anthony John Granny, Robert Patrick Granny III, his best friend and life partner, Michelle Granny, nee Murray, brother, Bob (Monica) Granny, his sister, Marie Anna (Jimmy) Mount, four step brothers, a step sister, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julianna Anastasiadis nee Brainard.
