John Giel Obituary

John J. Giel 81 of Burton passed away at his home Saturday, June 26, 2021.  He was born May 29, 1940, in Garfield Heights to the late Charles and Gertrude (Divis) Giel. John graduated from Holy Name in Cleveland and then joined the US Army serving from 1958-1961. He married the love of his life, Elane (Eddy) Giel, August 6, 1962.  He was co-owner of the family campground “Ledge Lake Park”, installed carpet for many local companies, and was a member of the carpet union.  John was a member and very active with St. Edward Catholic Church where he was a server working most of the funeral masses.  He also was former president of the Booster club for Berkshire Schools, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included, hunting, fishing and keeping up his wife’s rose garden.    
 
He will be sadly missed by his children, Cheryl (Tad) Vander Maas of Burton, Kimberly (Ken) Stevens of West Farmington, Charles (Bobette) Giel of Naples, FL, John C. Giel of Burton, Brenda Giel of Fort Worth, TX, and Jo Ann (Lance) Cook of Fort Worth, TX.  He is also survived by a brother, Bob (Irene) Giel of Streetsboro, 21 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elane who passed away in 2002, his son, James “Bo” Giel who passed away in 2006, and two brothers, Fred and Joe. 
 
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2021, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at the Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St. Middlefield, OH. 44062.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 16150 Center St, Parkman, OH 44080, with Father John Berkley officiating.  Burial will follow the Mass in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio.
