Janet Rae McIntee (nee Porter), 88, of Burton, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Wife of Edward “Ted” McIntee (deceased), loving mother of Lorraine Lynne McIntee-Phile (Timothy), Terri Lee McIntee-Larenas, Mark Allen McIntee (Cathy). Grandmother of Nicholas Phile and Joshua (Sarah) Phile, Derek (Hendye) Larenas, and Tirrell Larenas, great grandmother of Blaine Anthony Phile, Kensington Rae Phile, Rylynn Mae Phile, and Nathan Zachary Phile, sister of Wilbur “Bill” Porter, and daughter of the late Wilbur and Jessie Porter.

Janet was a teacher for 28 years and guidance counselor for 4 years. She worked at Claridon Elementary, Burton Elementary, and Troy Elementary. She retired from Berkshire School System in 1990. She was an active member of B.E.A., O.E.A., N.E.A. She was president of B.E.A. three times. After retirement she was an active member of G.C.R.T.A., O.R.T.A., O.E.A.-R. and N.E.A.-R. She was corresponding secretary, vice-president, and president of G.C.R.T.A. Janet was a recipient of the Martha Holden Jennings Teaching Award. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa (honorary education societies). She was a member of the former Clover Chapter #201 in Burton - currently Crescent Chapter #7 in Garrettsville (Order of the Eastern Star). She was Worthy Matron and was named Grand Representative of South Carolina in Ohio in 1991. She also served in several offices for the Chapter. She was a member of Clio Club in Burton and served as president for the group. She belonged to the Church of the Western Reserve Book Club, served as secretary and president. She was a charter member of the Western Reserve Chapter of AAUW. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, served as deaconess for several years, and was a president of the Chapel Circle. She loved to travel worldwide, camp, and swim.

Calling hours will be 6:00-8:00 PM with an Eastern Star Service at 7:30 PM Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St., Middlefield, OH 44062. A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 22, 2019 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 12419 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland, OH 44026. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Burton Library, PO Box 427, Burton, OH 44021 or to the American Cancer Assoc or the Heart Association.
