James Fred Safranek Jr. 73 of West Farmington, formerly of Solon, passed away at his home Thursday March 10, 2022, with his family at his side. He was born January 13, 1949, in Bedford to the late James Fred and Dorothy Helen (Ratzel) Safranek. James graduated from Solon High School and from Journeyman Trade School. Jim served in the United States Navy from 1968-1973 mostly aboard the CVS-18 WASP Aircraft Carrier. He was a member of the UBC Local 435 and was a Finish Carpenter for many companies in the area. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, working on and riding motorcycles, traveling to Myrtle Beach, and spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, of 50 years, Helen (Jackson) Safranek, son Christoper (Chastity) Safranek, Jennifer (Rob) Wadas, Kathy Safranek, 4 grandchildren, Nicholas Safranek, Alexis Safranek, Ariana Wadas, and Sophia Wadas. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Robert Safranek, a nephew, Jimmy Safranek.
A Gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 3:00 – 5:00 at the Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St, Middlefield, OH 44062. Military Honors will be held at 5:00 PM followed by a Time of Sharing by family and friends. He will be laid to rest in Welton Cemetery at a later date.
