James Petrik Obituary

James Edward Petrik, 71, of Claridon Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Geauga Medical Center, with family by his side.
He was born on January 28, 1950 in Garfield Heights the son of Gordon and Jean (Carpenter) Petrik. Jamey grew up in Burton, Ohio and graduated from Berkshire High School Class of 1968. He attended the University of Cincinnati. He worked for over 40 years in the rubber compounding industry and was one of the founders of Gold Key Processing in Middlefield, OH which later would become Hexpol Compounding. He retired in 2019 as a purchasing executive for Hexpol.
Jamey was also affectionately called “Jebs” by his family and friends, whom he loved spending time with. He had a passion for golf and also loved music, fishing and spending time with family on his pontoon boat. Jamey loved planning the next family vacation, which inevitably would be spent at the beach. He and his dear Gwen also shared countless get aways and trips together. Jamey loved being “Papa” and enjoyed many activities with his grandkids, who adored him.
Jamey was proud of his family home that he built from the ground up with help of family and friends, continuing on many home projects and remodels throughout the years.
Jebs was a people person. He had a knack for quickly building relationships that turned into friendships. Family and friends will miss his fun loving personality that brightened any room.
Jamey is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Gwen (Leamer) Petrik; children, Chad (Genny) Petrik, Jason (Cindy) Petrik and Jessica (Clinton) Sestak; his dear grandchildren, Austin and Liam Petrik, Ashley and Megan Petrik, and Hadley, Caden, Piper and Lila Sestak; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Petrik.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Dan Malone; and a brother, David Petrik.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 7:00 PM at the Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High Street, Middlefield, OH, where friends and family will be received from 4 PM to time of services at 7PM. The Family has requested masks be worn.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Russ Ward Scholarship Foundation, 365 Sylvia Drive Chardon, OH 44024. Jamey was a founding member of the Malone Invitational that benefited the Alzheimer’s community and later became the Russ Ward Golf Outing which supports the Russ Ward Scholarship Fund benefiting students at Berkshire and Cardinal School Districts.
