James R. Mullett 83 of Burton passed away Friday September 19, 2025. He was born October 29, 1941, in Burton to the late Albert and Amanda (Gingerich) Mullett
He will be sadly missed by his son, James R. Mullett II of Texas, 3 stepchildren, Richard Fairbanks, Victoria Fairbanks, Michael Fairbanks, 2 sisters, Ada Larson, and Bette Fairbanks, 7 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (O’Malley), daughter, Patti Mullett, sisters, Ann Judd, Sara Cofer, and Ruth Mullett; and brothers, Bill, Sam, John, Albert, Cal, Owen, and Paul, 2 grandchildren.
He grew up in Burton Station with his mostly Amish friends. They would swim, fish, play baseball and teach him their language. He became proficient enough that he would use it to tease his family and other non-speakers. He had a great sense of humor.
Jim attended Burton School. He was drafted by the Army as an infantryman and served in Vietnam. He then worked in manufacturing making medical supplies and splints. He loved his large family and family gatherings were a highlight for him and having breakfast with friends at Cinda’s restaurant in Middlefield. He was an avid follower of politics and a student of history. He spent hours watching historical shows and current events.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Tuesday September 23, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High Street, Middlefield, Ohio 44062. There will be a private Graveside Service in Middlefield Cemetery at a later date.
