Gerald “Jerry” Wayman, age 73, of Burton, passed away peacefully at home in his loving wife’s arms on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
Jerry was born on August 15, 1953, in Painesville, Ohio. He graduated from Fairport Harding High School in 1972. On July 27, 1985, he married the love of his life, Suzette E. Wayman.
Throughout his life, Jerry wore many hats and was well known throughout the community. He worked for Eltech Systems Corporation in Chardon, Ohio; served as manager of Grandview Country Club; and was the owner and operator of Tom & Jerry’s Diners and Coffee Corners Antiques & Coffee House.
Football was one of Jerry’s lifelong passions. Over a span of more than 30 years, he dedicated himself to coaching as a head football coach and defensive coach for Fairport Harding Midget and High School teams, Newbury High School, Notre Dame–Cathedral Latin School, and Berkshire High School.
Jerry was a devoted member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Parkman and proudly took charge of the Christmas decorations on Burton Square for the Burton Chamber of Commerce.
In his free time, Jerry enjoyed football, fishing, yard-work, and spending cherished time with his family at their cabin in West Virginia.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Suzette Wayman; his daughter, Vanessa Wayman; his stepchildren, Olivia (William) Micklos and Jeremy Taylor; his grandchildren, Harlyn (Aaron) Bookman, Attillo Micklos, Santino Micklos, Hayley Kumher, and Lucille Rose Taylor; and his great-granddaughter, Olivia. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Christi) Hall, Lee (Karen) Blankinship, and Jim Hall, along with many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Christine Ann Wayman and mother, Margaret Barnum.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High Street, Middlefield, Ohio 44062, from 2:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 PM. Father Jacob Bearer will officiate.
