Gene L. Ziegler

Gene L. Ziegler, age 88 of Middlefield, formerly of Montville, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at Mapleview Country Villa. He was born on September 16, 1932 in Cleveland, son of Eugene and Mary (Liptak) Ziegler. He was a graduate of Chardon High School in 1951 and was a milkman for several years. He owned and operated Courtesy Construction in Burton for many years.

Gene married Claire Continenza August 6, 1977. He sang in the choir at the 1st United Methodist Church in Middlefield and then attended Abundant Life Church of God when his son became the minister. Gene use to be an announcer for Thompson Drag Raceway and the Geauga Co. Fair. He was the most joyful and jolly Santa Claus in Geauga County. For 15 years Gene and Claire were snowbirds in Florida.

His hobbies included golfing, playing softball, and going motorcycle riding with his family and friends on his trike.

Gene was a big man with a big heart, selfless, honest, and a most generous man, who will be missed by all his friends and family.

He is survived by his beloved wife Claire of 43 years, his children, Gail (Lew) Moseley, Rita Rayl, Lisa Soyffer, Dawn (Gary) Borsi, Dean (Jill) Ziegler, Ralph (Patty) Continenza, Diane (Roy) Phifer, Charlene (Larry) Judd, Jill (Steve) Druhot, Mike (Denise) Continenza, Susan West, and 69 grand and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kaye Worth, and his brother Ken A. Ziegler.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Abundant Life Church of God, 14662 Old State Rd., Middlefield, Ohio from 11:00 AM until the Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Montville Cemetery.
