UPDATED WITH SERVICE
It is with great sadness & broken hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, dad, & grandpa, Gary L. Cumberlin. Gary died peacefully at home Monday, October 17, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. He was born December 18, 1952 in Ames, Iowa to Cliff & Mary Cumberlin. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Gary spent his early years in Cedar Rapids then moved with his family to Norway, IA. He was a 1972 Norway High School graduate. Soon after graduating, he enlisted in the Army and served from 1972 to 1975 in Fort Carson, CO.
Gary met his wife, Pat, in June of 1976 and they were married on August 6, 1977. Pat’s added bonus was her daughter, Lisa, who Gary adopted and loved as his own. In August of 1979, they welcomed a son, Dustin, who made their family complete.
For many years, Gary owned Quality Kitchens, working as a master carpenter. He took great pride in the many cabinets and pieces of furniture he created.
Gary took his family on many adventures over the years, living in Iowa, then moving to California, then back to Iowa, and finally settling in Ohio. After becoming empty-nesters, Gary & Pat bought a Harley and hit the road, creating many more memories.
He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Pat (Hauk Stern) Cumberlin, daughter, Lisa Campbell and her husband, Brian, son, Dustin and his wife, Brandy. Grandson Jason (fiance, Darian), step-grandsons, Braden, Christian, and Chase and step-great granddaughter, Ember. He is also survived by his sisters Terri (Bill) Nekvinda and Penny (Rick) Ohrt, uncles Jack (Sally) Allen, Dick (Ardy) Allen and many nieces & nephews.
He was met in Heaven by his Mom and Dad, sister, Sandy and brother, Junior. Also there to greet him were his dogs, Breeny, Boomer, and Nikki, as well as his horse, Mick.
Much love and appreciation go to Jenn and Sue, our special hospice angels, who lovingly helped me care for Gary for two years.
If you are so inclined, memorial contributions in memory of Gary may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday June 24, 2023 at the Bristol Community Church, 6251 Park Drive, Bristolville, Ohio 44402, with Pastor Shirley Stoops-Frantz officiating.
