Everette Ervin Hooten, Jr, "Hoot", born January 16, 1945, in Montcoal, Raleigh County, West Virginia passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday morning, March 3, 2024. He is survived by two sisters, Betty Hooten and Arbutus (Hudnall). He was preceded in death by his loving wife Connie in 2000.

Everette was the third son (of seven children) born to Everette Ervin Hooton and Octava Ellen Adkins. In 1963, Everette graduated from Marsh Fork High School in Montcoal, West Virginia, where he was the captain of the baseball team, and a member of the chess club.

Everette worked for many years at Pressure Castings, Inc in Cleveland, Ohio, first being employed on November 28, 1967, and continued working here until 2001. He then became a semi-truck driver until his retirement.

Everette was an active member of his community and enjoyed giving back to those around him. He volunteered across many different clubs and organizations, in several different capacities. He served as President of the Great Lakes C.B. Club for many years, coordinating coffee breaks, jamborees, and much more. He was a prominent member of the Geneva Camera Club, and loved photography, winning several awards. He also volunteered for the Geneva Grape Jamboree. In addition, Everette volunteered at the Senior Health Center in Ashtabula, Ohio, providing companion support and sharing in entertainment activities with many of the residents.

On July 6, 1974 Everette married Connie Lou Perry (Moody) in Cleveland, Ohio, and the two formed one large family to include six children: Everette Dwayne Hooten, Fred M (Liz) Perry, James Darrin (Tamara) Hooten, Kathryn Ann (Gary) McLaughlin, Michele Renee (William) Bates, and Lisa Renee Perry Carlton.

In 1995, Everette and Connie moved to Hiram, Ohio, where they lived at Troy Oaks Homes. Four years later, Everette and Connie celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, with many friends and family members in attendance.

Everette was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and blessed to have 23 great-grandchildren.

He will be sincerely missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with family members and friends.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 3:00-7:00 PM on Friday March 8, 2024 at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High Street, Middlefield, Ohio 44062.  A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date in Mt. Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, PA.
