Elaine J. Nicholson 74 of Newbury passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at Ohman Family Living at Holly. She was born June 12, 1947, in Cleveland to the late James and Emily (Kapalin) Vins. She graduated from Newbury High School and attend Beautician School. Elaine was a beautician for many years and then later in life a Bus Driver for Newbury Schools. She was a long-time member of Newbury Community Church and a lifelong member of the Newbury Community.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends on vacations and camping trips, traveling to family reunions and especially vacations to Oak Island with family and friends. Eventually Elaine and Frank settled down and enjoyed their summers at Holiday Camplands and spent their times relaxing with their family and grandchildren and all their friends. Elaine enjoyed many hobbies including doing many different types of craft projects, needle point, painting, ceramics, reading and playing in bowling leagues with her husband Frank.
She was always active in all her boys' lives and was always their biggest (and sometimes loudest) supporter. She was like a second mom to many kids in her neighborhood and would treat them no different than her own. She loved all her animals from when she was a kid on her family's farm to all the dogs (and a few cats) she rescued over the years.
She will be sadly missed by her sons, James (Mary) of Newbury, Matthew (Sherry) of Mentor, her grandchildren Jacob, Hunter, Kari, and Henry Nicholson, her brother, James (Betty) Vins, sisters, Barbara (Arthur) Jackson, and Janice Martell, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Emily (Kapalin) Vins, husband Frank F. Nicholson who died 2009, her son Frank J. Nicholson who died 2019, and her brother-in-law, Gene Martell.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High Street, Middlefield, Ohio 44062.
In Lieu of flowers, a Memorial Donations can be made to the Newbury United Community Church, PO Box 308. Newbury, Ohio 44065 in Elaine’s name to help the local community.
