Dorothy "Dottie" Hofstetter Obituary

Dorothy (Dottie) Hofstetter, age 80, longtime resident of Middlefield, passed away peacefully November 20, 2020 at University Hospital Geauga Medical Center.
Dottie was born in Kentucky to George Russell Ragle and Virginia Catherine Ragle in 1940.  She grew up surrounded by four sisters - two older and two younger - in Louisville, Kentucky.  The sisters remained close their entire lives.
She graduated from Assumption High School and studied to be a medical technologist.  Dottie worked at hospitals in Louisville before she met Carl Hofstetter who was stationed in the area.  The two were married on January 4, 1964.
Dottie moved with Carl to Middlefield after they married.  Soon after, they purchased Karl’s Jewelry and the flower shop from Carl’s father.  Dottie worked as a medical technologist at Geauga Hospital for several years prior to running the flower shop.  After selling the flower shop, she and Carl managed the jewelry store for 55 years and at one point expanded to five total stores across Northeastern Ohio. The pair collected many fun stories running the store, as well as on adventures while traveling to jewelry conventions throughout the US and Europe. Dottie continued her love of flowers with beautiful gardens and exotic indoor plants.  She officially retired in 2019.
Carl and Dottie raised their family in Middlefield. As her children grew, Dottie became very active with AFS welcoming dozens of exchange students to the area over the course of her volunteerism. She continued to stay in contact with several of those students and visited some over the years.  She enjoyed her grandchildren's activities in Georgia and Ohio, including two of her favorite marching bands: the Cardinal Huskies Marching Band and the Alpharetta Marching Raiders Band.  She loved watching Andrew progress to advanced brown belt in karate and Jenna excel on her flute.  She never missed a game or performance for Michaela or for her "Cat in the Hat" grandson, Michael.  Her favorite singing group was the Cardinaires, in which her son Chris, daughter Holly, and grandson Michael participated during their high school years.
In addition to her business and civic activities, she was a member of SS Edward and Lucy Parish and regularly attended mass at St. Lucy Mission in Middlefield, OH.  Dottie loved spending time with her family and friends at their cabin on the lake and enjoyed vacationing with her family and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dale (Ragle) Ernst, Jane Ragle, and Rosemary Ragle, and her niece Jamie (Hofstetter) Marrison.
She is survived by her husband, Carl; children, Lisa (Dennis) McNish, Holly (James) Prokash, and Chris (Matt) Hofstetter; and grandchildren, Michaela McNish, Michael McNish, Jenna Prokash, and Andrew Prokash; as well as sisters Rose (Bill) Mattingly and Sara (Terry) Mattingly.
