Dorothy R. Malkus

Dorothy R. Malkus, age 83, of Troy Township, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, at Blossom Hill Nursing Home.

Dorothy was born on March 7, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Roger and Mildred (Mahoney) Brooks. After graduating from high school, she married James Malkus in 1960, and together they raised three wonderful children.

Dorothy worked for many years as a librarian at Troy Elementary School, where she was known for her kindness and love of learning. She enjoyed traveling, staying active with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sewing, golfing, crafting, and working in her yard. Dorothy also wrote poetry and short stories and found great joy in genealogy and discovering her family’s history.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her loving family: her children, Darlene (Timothy) Cox of Chesterland, James Malkus of Florida, and Timothy (Melissa) Malkus of Mantua; her grandchildren, Kellie (Adam) Andre, Kevin (Judy) Slodic, Nicole (Anthony) Kozelka, David (Cassidy) Malkus, TJ, Brian, and Jarrod Malkus; and her great-grandchildren, Aidan, Jakob, Ryder, Harper, Sebastian, Colby, and Jackson. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Beardsley; her sister-in-law, Arlene; and her dear friend, Priscilla Keefe Rodriguez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Malkus; and her brother, Richard.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High Street, Middlefield. A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Sly Family Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Welton Cemetery in Burton, Ohio.
