Doris Wheeler Obituary
Doris Geidel Wheeler age 95 of Middlefield, Ohio passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 after a brief period of declining health due to several falls.
Doris was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania on July 8, 1924 to Harry and Erma (Wells) Van Norman. As a young woman Doris worked at the Pittsburgh and Shawmut Coal Company in Kittanning, PA. She was a secretary and in charge of routing all their coal trains in the 1940's. After staying home to raise two daughters she worked for Frieda Brotz then Jack Youshak, both optometrists, as a secretary receptionist. She and her husbands enjoyed traveling around the United States. Doris had a remarkable memory for Route numbers and where they ate. She enjoyed playing cards and board games; crocheting, sewing, plus roller skating and square dancing with her first husband. Doris was a dedicated care giver for her parents and her second husband.
Doris is survived by her daughters Cinda (Jack) Pottmeyer of New Philadelphia, OH and Debra (Dr. Robert) Wirt of Middlefield, OH; five grandchildren, Victor Pottmeyer of Akron, Ian Pottmeyer of Bloomington, IN, Lindsay (Major Chris) Fisher of KY, Lisa (Ty) Fannin of Burton OH and Amber Pottmeyer of New Philadelphia plus a much loved step granddaughter: Rachel (Dr. Samuel) Olsen of Athens, TN. Doris became close to her second husband's adult children Deb Newland (Kirby Bailey ) of Kirksville MO and Lynn Yoder of Sturgeon MO plus step-daughter-in-law Donna Wheeler (Chuck Palmer) of Columbia MO. She had numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren and she sent a birthday card to each person until this year.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her first husband of 33 years Merle F Geidel in 1979 and her second husband of 24 years Paul Wheeler in 2014, infant son in 1949, brother Byrl (Ella) Van Norman and sister Floy (Al) Oravec.
A private family service will be held at this time with the Sly Family Funeral Home in Middlefield.
