Donald C. McClead, age 98 of Middlefield, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Ohman Family Living at Briar. He was born on August 27, 1923, in Warren, Ohio, son of the late Guy and Viola (Green) McClead. He was a graduate of Howland High School in 1942. He then served for the Merchant Marines in WW II. He worked at Republic Steel in Warren for 30 years and retired in 1976.
Don married Janelle Brown in 1950 and lived in Warren, moving to Middlefield in 1973. You would always see Don and Janelle together, stopping and being friendly talking to others. They had many trips and good times with her cousin Vernelle.
They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Middlefield and the Middlefield Historical Society.
Don enjoyed doing landscaping at home. He had a great love of wood carving and enjoyed woodworking with his brother Richard on puppets. He also made a carousel horse that he loved showing everyone. Don especially loved being with his wife and family and will be missed dearly.
Don is survived by his beloved wife Janelle of 71 years, four children, Ronald (Mary Ann) McClead, Deborah (Jim) Sitko, Rebekah (Dale) Holzheimer, and Todd (Connie) McClead, 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, his brother Larry (Pat) McClead and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren, Tina Marie Ziegler, Renie Troyer, Shaun McClead, and his three brothers, Richard, Robert, and Gerald.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 24, 2021, followed with Military Honors by Burton American Legion at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St., Middlefield, OH 44062.
