Dennis Szymanski, age 75, of Middlefield, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in Cleveland and was the son of the late Edward and Clara (Piorkowski) Szymanski. Dennis graduated from Fenn College with a Bachelor of Science degree and was an electrical engineer for Reliance Electric from 1965 until he retired in 1999. After retirement he worked in real estate, substitute teaching, and was also involved with Middlefield elections, planning and zoning. He married Carol Stybel in 1967, and they were members of SS. Lucy and Edward Parish in Middlefield and Parkman . Dennis was an active member of SS. Lucy and Edward Parish . He was a lifelong learner, quick with a calculation and eager to solve any calculus or physics problem. He loved to make things. He made many wooden baseball bats for his children just to test his new wood lathe. If Dennis wasn’t refurbishing old cars, he was making wine (his way) and always willing to share. His greatest joy was his family. He always looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren, enjoying ice cream at Dairy Queen and the Caboose, playing games, working on puzzles, having cookouts and being outdoors. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Carol; his six children, Christopher Szymanski (Monica) of Texas, Theresa Smucny (Joseph) of Ohio, Alexandra Snopkowski (Michael) of Pennsylvania, Andrew Szymanski (Karri) of Washington, Dana Szymanski (Michael Smith) of North Carolina, and Thomas Szymanski of Ohio; 16 grandchildren, Nicholaus Szymanski of Texas, Samuel and Charles Smucny of Ohio, Alina, Meghan, Julianne, Corinne and Timothy Snopkowski of Pennsylvania, Matthew, Zachary and Ian Szymanski of Washington, Jack, Everett, Pierce, Maverick, and Holden Szymanski Smith of North Carolina; his brothers John Szymanski (Trudy) and David Szymanski (Linda); sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Szymanski and Cheryl Szymanski, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Edward Szymanski and Michael Szymanski.
A private service will take place at St. Edwards and will be officiated by Fr. John Burkley. Plans are being made for a Celebration of Life in the summer of 2021. In lieu of flowers, support your favorite charity. Sly Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
