David Lee Bates

David Lee Bates of Claridon Township (formerly of Newbury) passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024. David was born on May 12th, 1955 to the late Fredrick and Dovie (Smith) Bates in Chardon, Ohio. He graduated from Newbury High School in 1973 and married Lisa (Kinkopf) on October 30th, 1982.

David worked at Newbury Industries for 30 years and later on at Van Doren Demag, Bradford Neal and Gold Key Industries.

He enjoyed hunting, working on cars, golfing and woodworking. He built two houses from the ground up and lived in the second house since 1997.

David was a family man and will be greatly missed by them; his wife and other half Lisa, children Tiffany Bates, Amber Taylor and David (Megan) Bates, and grandchildren Lucy Taylor and Nicole Bates.

He is also survived by his brother Robert (Helen) Bates and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Cindy Lange.

There will be a private family memorial service at Sly Family Funeral Home in Middlefield with Father Jacob Bearer officiating. David’s final resting place will be East Claridon Cemetery.
