Betty Jo Bennett, age 86 of Parkman Township, Ohio, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Ohman Family Living at Blossom in Huntsburg. She was born on September 24, 1934, in Jellico, Tennessee, daughter of Joe and Maggie York. Betty Jo married Ed Jr Rutherford in Tennessee in 1952. They were married 41 years and were members of the Huntsburg Baptist Church since 1956. She was very devoted to the church. Betty worked for Johnson Rubber 30 years in quality control. They lived in Parkman since 1972. After Ed died on Sept. 19, 1993, she continued being dedicated to Huntsburg Baptist Church and met Don Bennett. She enjoyed playing music with Don at Paul’s Pickens Barn in Rome, Ohio. Betty Jo married Don on Dec. 18, 1999. They enjoyed traveling all over doing God’s work with missionary groups. They were on the Committee on Missionary Evangelism. Betty enjoyed traveling on vacation and gardening (no weed survived).
She will be missed dearly by her family and friends, her husband Don Bennett, her son Eddie (Sue) Rutherford of Yulee, Florida, her stepdaughter Brenda (Bill) McGee of Troy Township, her grandchildren, David Smith, Christopher (Ellen) Smith, Gerald (Christine) Rutherford, and Krystal (T.J.) Hawkins, her step grandchildren, Sara (Russ) Carnes, Katie McGee, Emily Osmeloski, many great grandchildren, her sister Elizabeth “Mildred” Marker of Huntsburg and several nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her first husband Ed Jr Rutherford, her daughter Teresa Gail Kapis (Smith), her grandson Aaron Smith, her sisters, Mary Williams, Ruby Smiddy, Geneva Webb, and her brother, Steven “S.G.” York.
Calling hours will be held 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St., Middlefield, OH 44062. MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
The Funeral Service to Celebrate her life will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at Huntsburg Baptist Church, 16401 Mayfield Rd., Huntsburg, Ohio 44046. Burial will follow at Huntsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Huntsburg Baptist Church.
