Benjamin Richard Shuman 94 of Burton, formerly of Bedford Heights, passed away at his home Sunday, August 14, 2022. He was born March 26, 1928, in St. Louis Missouri to the late Clifford and Josephine (Smith) Shuman. He graduated from East Akron high school and then went on to serve in the Navy for two years. Upon his return from the Navy, he attended Akron University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Ben went on to work for the state of Ohio as a civil engineer, helping design many of the roads we drive on today. He was a member of Sigma Tau (ƩT) which was an American engineering honor society. Ben enjoy going to the theater, acting, gardening, reading, and baking for which he won many ribbons at the Great Geauga County fair. Ben also enjoyed running marathons. He was a big supporter of many animal shelters.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters Mary Lynn Shuman, Catherine and Michael Patrick, son Joseph and Yolanda Shuman, grandchildren Cristine, David, Jacob, Jason, and James, and special friend Gail Thibodeau. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son Michael Shuman.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a private graveside service at Ohio Western Reserve
National Cemetery at a later date.
