Oscar A. Butcher

Oscar A. Butcher, beloved follower of Christ, went home to be with Jesus, his Savior on Thursday, August 8, 2019. Devoted husband of 65 years to Freda (Shaver); loving father of Cindy Warren of Mentor and Debbie Zion (Homer) of Independence; cherished grandfather of Rob Warren (Lisa), CJ Fink (Jeff), Kristen Pool (Andrew), Emily Rodriguez (Guille), Nathan Zion (Kathleen), and Geoffrey Zion (Stacey); proud great grandfather of 5.

Oscar was born in Holly, WV, August 21, 1928. He was the last surviving child of 8 born to John and Ollie Butcher. Oscar was a veteran of both the Merchant Marines (during WWII) and the Korean War. He was a heavy equipment operator and member of the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18. He resided in Huntsburg, Ohio for 52 years, living the remainder of his life in Independence. Oscar’s life was rooted in his profound faith in, and love for, Jesus Christ. Oscar served as a lay pastor and led a nursing home ministry for 25 years. He attended the Windsor United Methodist Church, Morning Star Friends Church, and most recently, Cuyahoga Valley Church.

Calling hours will be held from 11:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St., Middlefield, OH 44062.
