Margaret Scott Rankin

Margaret Scott Rankin, age 90 of Burton, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on April 27, 1928 in Cleveland, daughter of the late Robert McGloughlin Smith and Margaret (nee: Scott) Smith. She was also the adoptive daughter of the late Edward Karl Schneider. Margaret graduated from Shaw High School in 1947 and went to St. Luke’s Nursing School in 1950 for three years. She married Howard William Rankin Dec. 23, 1950. They were married 52 years before he died in 2002. She was a registered nurse and retired at the age of 69 in 1998 at UH Geauga Regional Hospital. Margaret was a member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She enjoyed going boating on Lake Erie with her husband. Her hobbies included painting, crafts, sewing, reading, gardening, and music. She loved to sing when she was younger. Her greatest joy was being with her family and friends.

Margaret is survived by her two children, Margaret “Peggy” (Tom) Harrington of Texas and Howard W. (Dianne) Rankin of Kentucky, five grandchildren, Jenneane Oliva, Jason Harrington, Melissa “Lisa” Johnson, Christine Franks, and Amy Lydan; 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard, her daughter Kathleen Elizabeth Dumler, and her half-brother Edward Karl Schneider Jr.
