Edgar Erik Bieznieks

Edgar Erik Bieznieks, 84 of Newbury formerly of Euclid passed away peacefully at his beloved home of 51 years surrounded by his family Thursday, September 5, 2019.  He was born in Aizviki, Latvia, July 19, 1935 to the late Fricis and Darta (Rosental) Bieznieks.  He, together with his parents and sister, was sponsored by a church in Apex, NC to escape the war in Germany in 1949.  He served 9 years with the US Army National Guard.  The day he saw Rita peering through a window, he told his friend that he was going to marry that girl.  Edgar married the love of his life, Rita Grubiss August 27, 1960.Edgar was a machinist for Newbury Industries until he retired in 1994.  He supplemented his income by sharpening saw blades, knives and chain saws for many in Geauga County as well as driving 16 years for Preston car dealership.He enjoyed a good bonfire on his own and with his family.  He loved working in his yard tending to his beautiful gardens, trees and ponds. He joined a golf league when working at Newbury Industries then shared his enjoyment of the sport by teaching his sons to golf.  Golfing with his boys became a regular occurrence for as long as his health would let him.  Fishing trips to Canada with his buddies was always something he looked forward to.  He refurbished an old boat and took his children out fishing as well.  He discovered a new hobby, wine making, through a few friends. He shared his wine making craft with his son, Erik, who has continued this "tradition." Ed enjoyed playing cards whether it was poker with the guys or rummy with his family, especially his granddaughters.  He never missed an episode of "Wheel of Fortune"!  He loved to sit outside in his lawn chair, playing his music and drinking "good" beer.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Rita, children, Cindy (John) Kraus of Parma, Erik (Lucinda) Bieznieks of Auburn, Ron (Lisa) Bieznieks of Hollywood, FL., Jim (Jen) Bieznieks of Newbury, Missy (Bret) Meadows of Chardon, 11 grandchildren; Rachel (Ryan) Zusy, Sarah (Ron) Ottichilo, Erik Bieznieks Jr, Nathaniel Bieznieks, Rachel Breckenridge, Cecilla Bieznieks, Dillen Bieznieks, Mykaela Bieznieks, Haley Meadows, Lilija Meadows, Julianna Meadows, 1 great grandson, Grayson Ottichilo, a sister, Lilija Goodwin of Apex, NC., sisters and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents. 

A Gathering of Family and friends will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St, Middlefield, OH 44062.  A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday September 14, 2019 at St. Helen Catholic Church,  12060 Kinsman Rd. Newbury, Ohio 44065. Burial will be at Munn Cemetery following the Mass.
